This morning, THN informed you that Benedict Cumberbatch had been cast in next year’s STAR TREK sequel – and now we have another name to add to the ever-growing list. Noel Clarke, best known for his roles in DOCTOR WHO and KIDULTHOOD, will play a family man with a wife and daughter.
Any other details on the role are scarce, with studio Paramount refusing to comment. The JJ Abrams vehicle, which is slated for release in May 2013, now features three high-profile British actors – Clarke joins newcomer Alice Eve (SEX AND THE CITY 2) and returning cast member Simon Pegg (SHAUN OF THE DEAD, PAUL) for the sequel.
Clarke’s most memorable role came on the British sci-fi show DOCTOR WHO, where he played bumbling assistant Mickey Smith from 2005 to 2006; he later reprised the role for two specials in 2008 and 2010. Since then, Clarke has made it big in films such as KIDULTHOOD (2006, actor/writer), ADULTHOOD (2008, actor/writer/director), and CENTURION (2010).
The as yet untitled STAR TREK sequel is shaping up to be just as big a hit as the first. It’s released in the UK on 17th May 2013.
